We are leaving the Zillmere Community Centre and need to find a new place where our volunteers can continue to offer our wonderful programs.
Northside Multicultural Community Inc. (NMC) vision is to:
- Identify and respond to the needs of the CALD community in the Northside multicultural arena, link people to appropriate services, and provide skills development, support, advocacy and advice.
- Involve the greater community to learn from, support and appreciate the joys of our ethnic diversity.
Over the past two years since our inception, we have been located at the Banyo Library (where we could meet, but unfortunately not store equipment or run an office), and most recently at the Zillmere Community Centre (a very small space shared with the centre who uses it as a storeroom). However, in order to effectively fulfill our mission, we believe it is imperative that we move to accommodation that will allow us to:
- Provide access to information and services.
- Securely store equipment
- Operate our office administration with toilet and kitchen facilities
- Provide a place for people to gather to learn, receive advice, and feel supported and welcome
We have identified one very specific not-negotiable criterion for our accommodation and that is that we need to be near public transport. As many of our community do not have transport, this access is imperative to our ability to provide our services.
We would naturally be very happy to share accommodation and it would be our preference to do so.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE and CONTINUE TO DO
Our Organisation to date has been involved in the following programs:
- Community Garden Banyo
- Men’s Space
- Multicultural Women's morning tea
- Art and Craft, English conversation
- Family support (finding donations of various household goods for family in needs)
- Cooking classes and guest speaker
- Provide opportunities for volunteers and student placement.
WHAT WE PLAN TO DO once appropriate space has been secured
- A range of social activities;
- Friendship opportunities for isolated people within the community;
- A meeting space for local groups;
- Training rooms for courses and workshops;
- Strong referral networks with state government, local churches and local social service agencies and clubs;
- Visiting professionals for individual consultations;
- A guest speaker program involving collaboration with other organizations
DO YOU KNOW OF A SPONSOR
As with all not-for-profit organisations, our budget is extremely limited. A sponsorship for our home would allow us to deliver on our promise and would allow our sponsor to be promoted as part of every aspect of what we do.
DO YOU KNOW OF A PLACE
Please be on the lookout . If you know of a potential home for us, please contact Paula on 0448 885 088 if you can help.
